NOTICE: If you are unsure about wiring a fan or any electrical component in your tanning bed, please call our service department for assistance.
Periodically clean your fans. Remove all dust and debris that may interfere with the fan blades from turning properly.
The number one cause behind an overheated tanning unit is fan failure. We suggest you stock fans for each model of tanning equipment you have so you can replace them as soon as you notice a failure.
Prolonged operation of your tanning unit without all fans working properly can cause premature lamp failure, ballast failure, and warped acrylics.
Fans FAQ's
Should I operate my tanning unit if some of my fans are out?
How can I tell if one or more of the fans are running or not running?
How do I order fan accessories (access panels, rheostat controls, switches, knobs, etc.)?
1. Should I operate my tanning unit if some of my fans are out?
No. Allowing your unit to run for prolonged periods of time with one, some, or all of the internal cooling fans out can cause more damage. It can lead to premature lamp failure, failure of other electrical components, acrylic damage, and extreme discomfort of your customers. Always have spare cooling fans in stock for each model of tanning equipment that you have.
2. How can I tell if one or more of the fans are running or not running?
Hot spots in the unit are the first sign of fan failure.
A strange noise coming from where the fans are located are also a sign that the fan is either not running or is blocked by dust and debris. That can also signal that the fan blades are out of alignment.
Some models of tanning equipment have fan access panels with vents in them for easy access. If you cannot see through these vents, you can hold a piece of paper near the vent. If you do not detect any movement, more than likely, that fan is no longer working.
3. How do I order the correct replacement fan?
The most common type of fan is the boxer fan. Most fans of this type are approximately 4" square, black, and are available in either 110 volt (115 volt and 120 volt are interchangeable with these) and 220 volt.
Have the make, model, and year of your tanning unit. Most distributors have a cross-reference on the fan that you need.
Also, have any identifying part numbers off of the fan that you need in case they need more information.
If you are looking for another type of fan, such as squirrel cage fan, you may also need to know the size (7", 9", etc.). Also note whether the fan motor is mounted on the right or left side.
Most body fan assemblies can be used on any type of tanning unit. These fans are usually designed to mount on the wall or on a fan stand. The fan stand may be sold separately. The type of body fan assembly you choose will depend on how strong (CFM) you want the fan to blow. There are a variety of body fans to choose from, some with the rheostat control mounted directly on the fan, others with seperate rheostat boxes.
4. How do I order fan accessories (access panels, rheostat controls, switches, knobs, etc.)?
In some cases, the fan itself may be working properly, and you may need a part that works in conjunction with the fan. These accessories can vary depending on the bed model and year. Some models have simple rheostat contols, while other units with digital timing systems may have more complicated replacement parts.
Have the make, model, and year of your tanning unit.
Be prepared to give the person taking your order an accurate, detailed physical description of the part: size, shape, color, etc.
Also describe the function of the accessory that you need.
